The Sleep Medicine Fellowship Training Program at the University of Washington evaluates eligible applicants based on their readiness and potential to thrive in the program. Annually, a total of 3 fellowship positions available in 3 tracks: General Sleep Medicine (#1918520F0), Pediatric (#1918520F1), and Otolaryngology (#1918520F2).
Applicants have the option to apply for and rank multiple tracks based on their preferences. However, the Otolaryngology track is restricted to those with prior otolaryngology training, and the Pediatric track requires prior residency experience with pediatric populations (such as pediatrics, family medicine, pediatric neurology).
To be eligible for this one-year Sleep Medicine Fellowship, physicians must complete an ACGME-accredited residency in Anesthesiology, Family Practice, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Otolaryngology, Pediatrics, or Psychiatry prior to the fellowship start date.
Application Process
To be considered for the fellowship, applicants must submit the following materials through ERAS:
- Curriculum Vitae (including details of college education, postgraduate training, board certifications, state licenses, visa status, and bibliography)
- A one-page personal statement
- USMLE or COMLEX-USA scores
- Medical school dean's letter
- Letters of recommendation from at least three individuals who have supervised your training or worked with you clinically
Once the application is complete with all the required documents listed above, the Program Director and selection committee will review the application folders. Following this review, applicants may be invited for an interview.
Interviews and site visits
Interviews for the UW Sleep Medicine Fellowship 2026-2027 cycle will be conducted utilizing an all virtual format.
In lieu of site visits, we are providing expanded information about our fellowship through video introductions of our main clinical sites, testimonials from our recent fellows, and links to our didactic sessions.
Eligibility
Candidates must be on track to complete residency training and be eligible for board certification in at least one of the specialties that are permitted to enter ACGME accredited programs in sleep medicine (Anesthesiology, Family Practice, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Otolaryngology, Pediatrics, or Psychiatry) prior to the start date of the sleep fellowship (typically July 1).
Selection Criteria
We seek candidates who possess outstanding personal characteristics and a dedication to lifelong learning in Sleep Medicine. When selecting fellows, we consider life experiences, clinical aptitude, professional commitment, program compatibility, and a demonstrated dedication to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Selection Process
Applicants must submit the required application materials via ERAS in order to be considered for an interview. We recommend submitting materials in July.
Applications are reviewed by the Fellowship Selection Committee in order to determine which candidates will be offered the opportunity to interview.
After interviews are completed, the Fellowship Selection Committee will determine the rank order list to submit to NRMP.
