Eligibility Criteria
Prior to entry into the CCM fellowship program at the University of Washington, applicants must complete an ACGME-, AOA-, ACGME-I-, or RCPSC-accredited internal medicine or emergency medicine residency program (CPR III.A.1.b).(1)). Fellows who have completed a two- or three-year ACGME-, AOA-, ACGME-I, or RCPSC-accredited internal medicine subspecialty fellowship can be appointed at the F2 level (CPR III.A.1.b).(2)).
Fellows from emergency medicine programs must have completed at least six months of direct patient care in internal medicine, three of which must be in a medical intensive care unit (CPR III.A.1.b).(3)). In some circumstances, fellows can complete the 1-2 months of this 6-month requirement by doing one to two months of internal medicine-based rotations at the start of the training program.
Selection Criteria
The CCM program uses a holistic review process as recommended by the American Association of Medical Colleges and the Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine process that balances consideration of experiences, attributes, and metrics. The program supports the training of fellows with varying professional interests ranging from careers in academic medicine – either as a physician-scientist, clinical educator or clinician-clinician – to careers in private practice.
The program is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace, and does not discriminate with regard to sex, race, age, religion, color, national origin, disability, or any other applicable legally protected status. Final ranking decisions are made by the program leadership and reflect the impressions of the candidate gleaned from interviews as well as the criteria outlined above.
The program will obtain verification of each entering fellow's level of competence upon completion of the core residency program, using the ACGME or CanMEDS Milestone evaluations.
