research interests

Eric D. Morrell, M.D., M.A., ATSF is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine at the University of Washington. Dr. Morrell’s research program is focused on understanding the immune mechanisms of acute infection, acute cellular rejection, and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) in normal hosts and lung transplant recipients through genomic, cellular, and molecular epidemiologic analyses. Specifically, his work has identified novel alveolar macrophage "subsets" that are associated with clinical outcomes in ARDS using transcriptional and single-cell methods. In addition to his translational research in ARDS, Dr. Morrell directs the University of Washington's Lung Transplant Biorepository and is an Associate Editor at the American Journal of Respiratory Cell and Molecular Biology. Dr. Morrell's clinical focus is critical care and lung transplant medicine.
